Three Upcoming Technologies You Should Keep An Eye On

There is one truth about technology, it’s always changing. It seems as soon as you get the latest phone, laptop, TV or just about any piece of electronic equipment, something newer and better comes along to take its place. Technology moves at a fast pace, but some changes are bigger than others. Let’s look at some of the technologies we think will have big changes, coming up next.

Some technology is widely accepted and doesn’t change too often, but when it does major shifts occur. A few that come to mind are VHS to DVD, Dial-up to high speed Internet, and even tube type to flat screen TV’s. Here are three upcoming technologies you should keep an eye on.

1. 5G Networks – We use mobile devices every day in both our business and personal lives. As more of us begin to use mobile devices for data intensive things like video calls and streaming movies, the need for faster and more reliable mobile Internet is growing. 5G networks will be the next major mobile upgrade. What’s most exciting is that carriers are reporting 5G can deliver speeds that are 30 to 50 times faster than the current 4G standard. While it’s not quite here yet, it’s certainly something to watch for.

2. Augmented Reality – Many people are familiar with virtual reality but augmented reality mixes the real world with overlays of information through lenses. The possibilities with A.R. are endless because you can see real-time data and images mixed with the real world around you. For instance, warehouse workers could virtually see inventory in boxes without opening them, doctors could see your veins for perfect needle placement every time, or even GPS directions over laid directly on the road in front of you. Google Glass is an example of a simple A.R. system.

3. Self-Driving Cars – Self-driving cars have already hit the roads and it appears that most major automobile manufacturers are working on this technology. The technology promises to reduce accidents and injuries by taking user error out of the equation. Self-driving cars will be able to monitor all aspects of a driving situation through monitors, cameras, and sensors and see things a person would never be able to see, even in the dark. While this technology is mostly in the testing phase, companies like Tesla are already introducing limited self-driving functions in cars you can buy today.

Though these are just a few of the technologies to keep an eye on, technology advancements in our lives and businesses continue to happen quickly.
